combine (separate elements into one group, as if with glue) v.t. agglutinate

Saturday, January 2, 2021 by Peter Leave a Comment

The highlight is Albers’s recently rediscovered tapestry … commissioned for a hotel built for the 1968 Olympics. Ten feet square, it agglutinates irregularly alternating triangles of pink, scarlet and wine into a syncopated pattern that seems to shift and fizzle. (Jason Farago, “New York Galleries,” The New York Times, 10/2/2019.)

agglutinate (an in combine separate elements into one group, as if with glue) can also be a synonym for unite, merge and join
