bright (shining …) adj.: fulgurant

Tuesday, April 27, 2021 by Peter Leave a Comment

The more we know about Hitler, the more enigmatic he — or rather, his fulgurant success — becomes. Here was a man without character, or with a most uninspiring personality. He had no vices; he did not drink or smoke, and he did not really care for women. “Outside politics,” Kershaw writes, “Hitler’s life was largely a void.” (Istvan Deak, The Making of a Monster, The New Republic, 04/12/1999.)

This word, when used in the above sense, can also be a synonym for for brilliant, dazzling, gleaming,  glowing, radiant and shining.
